Hopefully you are not buying Palin's (and lining that woman's pocket) and are only, out of some macabre curiosity, going to sit down with it and a cup of coffee at Barnes and Noble for a few minutes and skim it for a few laughs in the spirit of know thy idiots.

Those comfy chairs at Barnes and Noble--shouldn't those of us with profound tomes, and serious journals have dibs? and those with frivolous decorating magazines give up their seats for us?

Ah Sisterhood! Seems as the list of cheerleaders for Roman Polanski includes women! such as Monica Bellucci...Tilda Swinton. Ok, I am from the south. I live with patriarchal cheerleaders (and not all of them from the south)every day, all my life, it feels--all kinds of little slings and arrows in my years in academia, (coming soon, I hope, my novel, LUCKY JOYCE) s and a such as the support of a proverbial male seducer of the innocent student--actually that guy is disappeared from that department but not before the religious (walking around every Easter with facial ashes) and "feminist" alike supported his regretful position. But this list of heavyweight Hollywood supporters! I can well understand Woody Allen on top of the list (heh, heh, maybe that will work against Polanski). I was surprised by Gore Vidal's response that he is not going to sit and weep about a thirteen-year-old hooker, and he goes on, that it was a totally different story at the time--whah? was the age for statutory rape different? and drugs and rope less frowned upon? and further says the press had some underlying thing that was just anti-aging and anti-semitic. Polanski said that everyone wants to [....} little girls...So let's go to Pakistan and Afghanistan and eliminate the Taliban? We seem to have healthy Taliban minded individuals here. And in Europe as well--there was some stir over Mitterand's memoir a few years ago, and alleged underage sex with Thai boys (he ultimately denied it), Foreign Minister Koucher said the case against Polanski was "sinister." And seems as if the victim in the case wants the whole thing dropped...

So the World Series is getting to be the World Serious. The tenor who has led an exemplary life overcoming great odds, has been canned. A realtor showing an apartment in his building ran into Tynan and said, about a client, something to the effect, don't worry, he's not a Red Sox fan. To which Tynan said, something to the effect, I don't care about that as long as he is not Jewish. His perfomance at the League Championship opening was cancelled. I'm throwing this in because anti-semitism seems to be alive and well and Gore Vidal's sense of injustice has its roots, but using it as a defense of little girl exploiters?
